Vic government project highlights solar power hotspots

Those with an interest in renewable energy projects may want to keep note of developments concerning solar power in Victoria.

News that the state government is investing in a solar map which pinpoints where solar projects are popping up across the state could be a great development for investors and businesses alike.

An emphasis on alternative energy initiatives has the potential to reduce electricity prices.

Energy and resources minister Michael O'Brien revealed the details of the Victorian Solar Atlas project yesterday (October 4).

The atlas which will feature information about Victoria's solar energy may encourage energy companies to take part in solar power initiatives.

"The Victorian Solar Atlas is a powerful tool that will help attract solar investment and jobs and encourage the development of new renewable power sources," Mr O'Brien said.

One of the main aims of the initiative is to create a resource which provides communities, developers, investors and researchers with information about where the best solar resource regions are in the world.

"This is an example of the government investing in and promoting the development of renewable and low emissions energy sources that will play an increasingly important role in Victoria's energy mix," he concluded.
