New funding encourages solar energy in schools

Homeowners may be interested to hear about how schools across Australia have started to incorporate the use of solar energy to reduce their energy bills.

This may be worth noting for any households looking for ways to cut the amount of power they use.  In addition to this, residents may wish to compare electricity prices of a few different providers.

The government's investment of $24 million in 804 Australian schools was part of the latest round of National Solar Schools Program funding, announced on Friday (September 14).

Overall, the funding will help to pay for the installation of solar energy systems and it will help the schools to implement energy efficient techniques to reduce power use.

The aim of the initiative is to cut the amount of carbon emissions that schools are producing, climate change and energy efficiency parliamentary secretary Mark Dreyfus said.

"Smarter, cleaner energy use in our schools, home and local community buildings means we're creating less pollution and saving money," Mr Dreyfus added.

Thanks to this scheme, more than 5,300 primary and secondary schools have received $217 million to install renewable energy systems which has assisted them in improving their energy efficiency.

With many schools taking advantage of solar power - now may be the time for you to consider how it may help you to reduce the cost of your electricity at home.

"The National Solar Schools Program allows students, teachers and parents to learn from and enjoy the benefits of renewable energy and lowering carbon pollution first-hand," he concluded.

While initially the cost of solar power can be on the expensive side - in the long-run, it has the potential to become a more sustainable energy source.
