Most popular holiday destinations revealed

With electricity and gas prices going up, many families are probably finding it difficult to pay the monthly utility bills let alone save for a holiday.

If you are trying to put a little bit away for your next summer vacation, one good option might be undergoing a gas comparison check which can review your available gas suppliers and find out which one offers the best value for money.

The next step will be deciding which holiday destination is right for you, and new figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics could help.

According to the results of a study published August 3, the most popular short-term trip destination for Australians is New Zealand.

More than one million people went across the Tasman last year, although the fact that NZ is often colder and wetter than Australia makes us think a significant proportion of those journeys may have been family or business related.

The next most popular destination was Indonesia, with 911,000 visitors, followed by the USA (819,000), Thailand (600,000) and the UK (487,000).

In total, Australians made around eight million short-term trips during the 2011-2012 period. Of that around 57 per cent were holiday related.

So what are you waiting for? Now is the perfect time to save money on your gas expenses and start planning your next tropical getaway.
