Mobiles top Santa's gift list

New studies show that a record number of people were given smartphones as gifts this Christmas, as the user-friendly devices become increasingly popular among consumers.

A recent report by Flurry Analytics has found that consumers have been quick to embrace the latest smartphones available from providers such as Apple and Samsung.

An average of 1.5 million activations took place on a daily basis during December - with the obvious exception of Christmas Day where results were much higher - as more and more people gift others with a new phone this holiday season.

The research company also points out that as many as 1.8 million new iOS and Android devices went online everyday.

Estimates suggest that as many as 108 million apps were downloaded by users in the lead up to Christmas, which rose to 242 million on the holiday.

With so many people giving and receiving smartphones over Christmas, it may be a good idea to research the best mobile plan for your needs.

And while it may seem difficult to change provider, making the decision to move your account could also save you and your family on monthly phone and internet bills, which is important in times of economic difficulty.
