Law changes to protect bill payers in SA
Laws have been passed in the South Australian parliament, which the energy minister says will allow the state's people greater access to electricity and gas.
This new legislation gives the state the ability to participate in the National Energy Customer Frameworks giving consumers greater protection.
Energy minister Tom Koutsantonis said that bill payers will be able to search for reduced electricity prices and cheaper utilities through greater competition.
He commented: "This government very much appreciates the pressure on family budgets from rising power bills and is constantly looking for ways to ease the cost of living.
"The national framework introduces protections to ensure South Australians, including those experiencing financial hardship, can access essential energy services on reasonable terms."
These rules, the minister stated, will protect customers as they will be given more thorough information before entering into an agreement with a utilities provider, allowing bill payers to be more confident that they are getting a fair deal.
It you aren't happy with your energy provider, talk to a comparison and switching service and see if there is a better deal out there for you.
