It isn't just households that are set to be affected by the introduction of the carbon tax next month, many businesses will also be dealing with the cost of rising electricity prices.

With that in mind, it might be a good idea to take a moment to inspeact your office and consider just how energy efficient your place of work might be.

Take a look at the appliances you are running - the office fridge, the heater in the corner, the coffee machine - just how energy efficient are they?

While going for the cheaper option might seem appealing at the time of purchase, appliances with a strong energy efficiency rating are better for the environment and can save you significant amounts in the long run.

Who's in charge of ensuring the lights are off when you leave for the day? And are you using energy efficient bulbs? All things worth considering if you want to cut down on electricity costs.

Completely switching off your computers when you head out is much more energy efficient then just leaving them on standby, so consider taking that extra step, even if it does cost you a few extra seconds in the morning.
