Energy saving solution offered to Vic businesses

Businesses in Victoria searching for ways to reduce their costs may be interested in an energy saving scheme being promoted by the state government.

In an effort to help Victorian businesses become more eco-friendly, the state government is offering them the chance to try out a fleet of electric vehicles.

State transport minister Terry Mulder announced the new plan on Friday (October 12).

The initiative is part of the Victorian government's $5 million electric vehicles trial, he explained.

"This is a great chance for Victorian companies to test electric vehicles in their businesses without having to purchase the new technology upfront." Mr Mulder said.

Another cost saving solution is finding out how carbon conscious your electricity supplier is and perhaps check out whether there is a more cost effective electricity plan available for you.

Mr Mulder said that the electric vehicle scheme may even help to increase companies' awareness about the use of electric cars.

"They will gain insights into how electric vehicles work, which will help them plan how they might incorporate the technology into their business in the future."

Interest in the use of electric cars has increased since the Electric Vehicle Trial in late 2010, Mr Mulder said.
