Energy minister welcomes ARENA plan
Federal energy minister Martin Ferguson has welcomed the Australian Renewable Energy Agency's (ARENA) General Funding Strategy and Investment Plan which will pave the way to see an increase in the supply of clean technologies to Australia.
Ferguson said that this is a building block upon which Australia's clean energy future can be built that will see less pollutants in the air and households enjoying cheaper electricity prices.
"I am pleased to see that ARENA has identified a real opportunity for renewables in regional and remote locations.
"Some of the best renewable resources are found in remote and off-grid environments in Australia, where the high cost of fossil fuel generation and increasing demand from industry creates opportunities for the deployment of large-scale renewables," he said.
Ferguson pointed out that by 2035, Australia will receive 40 per cent of its electricity from clean and renewable resources where currently it is just ten per cent.
Electricity prices have risen by 40 per cent in the last four years and the energy minister says this can be solved through renewable sources.
If you feel you are paying too much for your electricity, talk to a comparison and switching service to determine if there is a better deal out there for you.
