Earth Hour shines light on electricity suppliers
Sustainability for energy consumers is all about efficiency and the reduction of waste.
Keeping unnecessary power supply to a minimum can have a positive effect on your household bills and the way that electricity suppliers view your energy use.
The World Wildlife Fund's annual Earth Hour event aims to promote the creation of a sustainable future for all the planet's inhabitants and the Unplugged initiative hopes to increase awareness of energy efficiency.
This Saturday (March 31) at 20:30, Unplugged encourages energy users to go without electricity - even just for an hour.
Planned events across the country include neighbourhood parties and school gatherings which will 'go acoustic' for awareness and fundraising.
Mayor Clover Moore called on Sydneysiders to participate, saying: "I encourage everyone in our community to take part by switching-off their lights during Earth Hour. Take the opportunity to gather with people in your community, your friends or family and host an ‘unplugged’ power-free event of your own."
Mr Moore added that an hour of action is not sufficient to take on global environmental challenges, and suggested that consumers look for ways to make more sustainable choices every day.
