Anticipation builds as iPhone 5 rumours mount up

The rumour mill is working overtime as anticipation builds for the impending announcement of Apple's iPhone 5.

Apple Insider has received reports that the new smartphone may be set for a September release, alongside a new smaller version of the iPad.

The news comes alongside recent rumours that the iPhone 5 will feature an entirely new design, with a larger screen and an aluminium backing, after 9to5Mac released leaked photos last month of potential prototypes.

"The new iPhone will indeed be longer and thinner than the iPhone 4 and 4S. Approximate measurements are 125mm by 58.5mm by 7.4mm - a 10mm jump in height, nearly 2mm reduction in thickness, and virtually identical width", wrote iLounge editor-in-chief Jeremy Horwitz last month.

Smartphone users planning to upgrade will also want to consider reviewing their current telecommunications provider, to ensure they have the best mobile plan for their needs.

Apple will host its annual Worldwide Developer Conference starting June 11 in San Francisco, and many people will be looking to this event for an official announcement, so stay tuned.

Mac Rumours is reporting that Apple has already started decorating the Moscone Center, where the event is scheduled to take place. One banner reads: "Where great ideas go on to do great things."
