17-year-old claims LG Mobile US National Texting Championship
A young man from Rhinelander, Wisconsin has just won the gold medal in a sport that you probably will not be seeing at the Olympics any time soon.
The sixth annual LG Mobile U.S. National Texting Championships concluded today in New York City with 17-year-old Austin Weirschke claiming the top title for the second year in a row.
Weirschke's fast thumbs earned him the grand prize of US$50,000, after he beat out nearly 100,000 entrants from across the USA over the eight week competition.
Events included a text-in-the-dark round in which competitors had just 45 seconds to pound out "Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are, up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky" while blindfolded.
If you fancy yourself as the next world texting champion then you better get practicing, competitors estimate they send hundreds of txts a day.
Sending all those messages is going to be expensive however, unless you have the best mobile plan to suit your needs.
That is why it is a good idea to compare phone plans in order to figure out which one offers the best value for money.
