How much are Australian SME's overpaying on energy?
Make it Cheaper have crunched the numbers and found most Australian SMEs and households are overpaying on their energy bills by not shopping around.

Make it Cheaper compared energy bills across regions where customers are able to choose their electricity or gas retailer, seeing which states were losing the most by failing to switch. We found that SME's in NSW were losing on average up to $1,202 per year on energy, with SME's in VIC coming in close second at $1,161 per year. Here's a full list of the annual savings that could have also been made for the following states and territories (in order of savings):
- New South Wales: $1,202 per year.
- Victoria: $1,161 per year.
- South Australia: $1,131 per year.
- South East Queensland: $854 per year.
- Australian Capital Territory: $714 per year.
We discovered that SME's still had massive potential to save big just by comparing multiple energy offers. Overall, it was found that the average Australian small business could save up to $1,606 per year, by simply shopping around from our panel of energy retailers - just imagine what your business could do with those savings!
In addition to our own findings, a statistic in a report conducted by the ACCC stated that electricity prices have increased by a staggering 80% over the past ten years, leading to the conclusion that the need for small businesses to compare energy offers to save is bigger than ever.
