Internet usage rises over past 13 years

Australians are now logging on to the internet more frequently than ever before, the latest figures show.

The Roy Morgan State of the Nation Report 10 reveals that 55.5 per cent of the population are accessing the internet more than once a day, compared to just 7.2 per cent in 1999.

The greatest decline has been seen in the proportion of the population accessing the internet just a few times a week, which has fallen from 19 per cent in December 2004 to 9.6 per cent in the same month last year.

Norman Morris, industry communications director at Roy Morgan Research, said that leading an offline lifestyle is becoming increasingly difficult.

"Online banking is a good example of how consumers can save a great deal of time and even money, and it is these big online advantages which are gradually rendering traditional methods, such as the standard branch visit, obsolete," he commented.

As many broadband packages can be bundled with landline packages, consumers might want to compare phone plans to get the best deal on their internet connection.

Another recent poll by the group found that 85 per cent of people between the ages of 21 and 36 visit search sites, while 81 per cent use online communities and messaging facilities.

Finding a Better Business and Home Electricity Deal

Running a business can be extremely stressful without having to think about whether you're with the best energy supplier, and checking whether you have a cheap electricity deal for your home is the last thing you have time to do.

Business and home electricity prices have risen over the past 12 months and will continue to rise over the next 12 months. Businesses and home owners have seen energy bills increase by up to 20%, and are likely to continue to see further prices increase next year and the year after.

Fortunately, there is an increasing amount of competition between residential and business electricity suppliers, across the majority of Australian States and Territories, including South Australia (SA), Queensland (Qld), New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria (Vic).

Finding a new electricity supplier can take a lot of time and expertise, time which is often better spent running your business. Make It Cheaper takes the leg work out of finding a better gas and electricity deal available for your home or business's needs. We will ensure that shopping around for a new deal is simple, easy and cheaper for all Australians.
